 THEFUNKYCHEF.CO.UK = SCAM SITE!

If only I had done a quick search for feedback about this company I would never have placed an order.  According to what I have experienced and what I have read from about other peoples experience, the people (David) at http://www.thefunkychef.co.uk/ operate a fairly complex scam.  Here is how it works...

1. You pay for your selected items by your selected method (I choose debit card).
2. You wait for your items to arrive.
3. The items never arrive.

Now I know this is quite difficult to get your head around what with the level of complexity involved but try going through it again and see if you can work it out.

Needless to say I tried calling http://www.thefunkychef.co.uk/ and emailing them many times over the last 3 months and have received absolutely no response... which again matches perfectly with other people experiences.  Having contacted Natwest about what I could do, I was told I and they couldn't do anything as I cant prove I didn't receive the items. What a load of bullshit!  Can they prove they sent it recorded delivery as they were supposed to?  Surely the fact that you cant make contact with them is enough  set alarm bells ringing???

I guess I am glad that my order with http://www.thefunkychef.co.uk/ was quite small, just a few new jackets and replacement buttons... I have read about a guy who placed a huge order for new clothing for his whole restaurant and has received nothing...

Hope you don't fall foul to these muppets!

Dylan

  1. Thanks for the heads up. I had thought about getting some whites from there - I'll think again!

Russums are very good if you still need stuff - very quick.

  2. Always pay by Credit Card, never Debit Card. It's a condom for your wallet, you know it makes sense.

  4. If it's any consolation I too have not received my goods. I have reported them to Trading Standards though as have others. Hopefully something will be done to shut them down.

  5. I fell for it as well. I've taken the precaution of getting my debit card cancelled and reissued. Halifax said they investigate this firm and if it turned out to be bogus (and not just a rubbish firm that can't fulfill their order) then they would refund me.

  6. He is answering his mobile at 07951698769 right now. Apparently there have been problems but these are now sorted. He said an order should arrive by Tuesday. We shall see what happens.

  7. Hi Dylan

I initially ordered one tunic, it arrived after a couple of weeks. I ordered a second which took over a month to arrive and then only after I had emailed them. Stupidly, I gave them the benefit of the doubt as their mailing costs are cheaper to the Isle of Wight than other companies and I liked the style of the tunic. I ordered two chef tunics - with embroidery for my new business on March 4th 2010. Immediately my money was taken but so far, even after many phone calls and three emails, I have heard nothing. I wish I had seen the reviews before ordering but thank you for highlighting this. I cannot afford to buy more tunics so I can just hope 'Anonymous' is right and we may still get these items. I have reported to Trading Standards though.

  8. I've spoken to David numerous times and got a refund for my order. I encourage anyone else still awaiting an order to call him on his mobile 07951698769 requesting a refund. He has admitted the company is closing down, and the number on the website is now defunct.

  9. Well I placed an order on 26 may 2010, fortunately only £5.61. After 10days waiting I sent an email and tried to contact today 17 Jun and the telephone number is dead. I went to barclays and they are going to send me a form to get my money back. Apparently, from 0 to 100 pounds purchase you can apply for a charge back claim when using a Debit card. I had this information from Wich, magazine.

  11. Hi,

cheers for the info, will have to give Natwest a call and try your idea. They were most unhelpful the first time round.

    Time to try again!

    Thanks again!

  12. I spoke to David after placing an order of £38.85 for an embroidered jacket, and being told it would take up to 20 working days to arrive. Needless to say it didn't, and after waiting a little longer, and emailing with no reply, and the finding out the site number didn't work, I found his mobile, which he never answers, and then his landline of 01702 296762 - he assured me a refund, which he never gave, saying that they can no longer provide Le Chef embroidered jackets. They are still selling them on the site. I have opened a dispute with my credit card company and called trading standards. How can he keep getting away with this?

  13. Finally he has closed down the website. I've had to fill in a chargeback request with the bank to try get a refund. Case of a business gone badly wrong and rather than sorting it out he just lied to customers to try get out of a hole.

  15. After no delivery of goods and numerous unreturned emails i gave up on any chance of receiving my money back until i read these comments. I phoned the chap called david and was told his company was bust well before i placed an order, he said the money i paid along with others was to pay other people back, i pointed out he was commiting fraud and if i didnt receive a refund within 5 days i would be calling his local police station to have him charged with fraud. He said he would process my refund and swiftly called me back saying he would send a postal order by recorded delivery, 5 days later true to his word payment arrived which i really didnt expect. Hopefully anyone else that has been robbed will do the same thing. Good luck all.

  16. I ordered my daughter a jacket from them in December 2009.
    Since then absolutely nothing!!
I went to Southend for a different reason & couldn't find them.......................it's probably for the best!!!

I made the fatal mistake of not researching & trusting a Company, paid with debit card so money in his back pocket.

I look forward to reading your comments whether they are good, bad or indifferent!
